Burnout and motivation in professional work of swimming coaches of different age and work experience

Hipothesis: It was assumed that swimming coaches older than 35 years and having more than 10 years of work experience were likely to have a higher burnout rate than swimming coaches under 35 years of age and having less than 10 years of work experience. The aim of the study: to examine the characteristics of burnout and motivation in professional work of swimming coaches of different age and work experience. Objectives: 1. To analyze the charateristics of burnout in swimming coaches in relation to their age and length of work experience. 2. To determine motivating factors in the professional work of swimming coaches in relation to their age and length of work experience. The object of the study – peculiarities of swimming coaches burnout and motivation for professional activity. Methods: literature reviews, survey through questionnaires, statistical analysis (using Student t-test). The organisation of the study: the study was carried out in the period from December 2019 until January 2020. Subjects: 108 Lithuanian swimming coaches of different age and length of work experience. Results of the study: The analysis of study results showed that comparing the level of burnout in swimming coaches at work in relation to their age and length of work experience, all subjects have experienced burnout at work; however, their burnout level is low. Coaches over 35 years of age and with more than 10 years of work experience (p <0,05) have a higher burnout rate compared to swimming coaches under 35 and with less than 10 years of work experience. Comparing the motivation of swimming coaches according to their age and length of work experience, the inward motivation is more characteristic to younger coaches under 35 and with less than 10 years of work experience. The analysis of other motivating parameters (integrated, identified, introjected, and external showed that swimming coaches older than 35 years of age and with more than 10 years of work experience have a higher level of motivation compatred to younger coaches.
