The situation of physical education in Marijampole city schools: teachers‘ points of view

Physical education teacher constantly has to adapt not only to the changing needs of society, but also to the granted work conditions. Aim of the study was to identify and compare the situation pf physical education in Marijampole city schools. Physical education teachers are often faced with such problems as adapting the curriculums of each student’s individual needs, insufficient number and quality of equipment resources, low status of physical education. The survey was carried out using a questionnaire which is designed by Sport Science and Physical Education Council (ICSSPE/IOC), an international study (Hardman, 2009). The results showed that the Marijampole city schools mainly use lessons time for team games, athletics or outdoor activities. As non-traditional physical activity behavior teachers mostly choose draughts, rhythmic gymnastics, checkers and chess. Teachers evaluate students’ progress and achievements by marks. In lessons teachers evaluate students’ effort and progress, technical and tactical actions. For physical weaker students physical education classes are conducted in conjunction with the whole classes. Male teachers the quality of equipment evaluate more positive than female teachers (p=0,04).
