A longitudinal study of self-esteem and self-confidence of the primary school pupils’of different social background from city of Kaunas and region of Kaunas

The object of research – the self–esteem and self–confidence of the primary school pupils of the different social background from Kaunas city and Kaunas region. Research problem. The differences in self–esteem and self–confidence of teenagers from different aspects of time, social status, place of residence. The aim of this study was to establish changes in two academic years (I study 2008/2009 a. y. - 5-6 grades and II study 2009/2010 a.y. - 6-7 grades) the peculiarities of the primary school pupils’ self–esteem and self–confidence of the different social background from Kaunas city and Kaunas region. The tasks of research included: 1. To evaluate the peculiarities of self–esteem of the primary school pupils of the different social background from city of Kaunas and region of Kaunas over the time (2008/2009 a.y. and 2009/2010 a.y.). 2. To evaluate the peculiarities of self–confidence of the primary school pupils of the different social background from Kaunas city and Kaunas region over the time (2008/2009 a.y. and 2009/2010 a.y.). 3. To compare the estimates of self–esteem and self–confidence from the different places of residence and eligibility in terms of social, separately in the study No. I (2008/2009 a.y.) and in the study No. II (2009/2010 a.y.). 4. To compare estimates of self–esteem and self–confidence over the time from the studies No. I and No. II. The hypothesis of research: 1. The levels of self–esteem and self–confidence of primary school pupils from social supporting families will be lower than primary school pupils from social not supporting families. 2. The primary school pupils from city of Kaunas will be the higher levels of self–esteem and self–confidence then the primary school pupils from region of Kaunas, compared separately the different social background. 3. The primary school pupils from social supporting families will be the higher levels of self–esteem and self–confidence in study No. II (2009/2010 a.y.) than in study No. I (2008/2009 a.y.) because participated in the additional educational programs. Findings: 1. It was evaluated that primary school pupils from social supporting and not supporting families were at the medium self-esteem level in Kaunas city and in Kaunas region, excluding primary school pupils from social not supporting families in city of Kaunas – most of them were high self-esteem in study No. I. 2. It was evaluated that primary school pupils from social supporting and not supporting families were at the medium self-confidence level in city of Kaunas and in region of Kaunas. 3. After the comparison of the research results separately of the studies No. I and No. II it was established the statistically significant difference of levels of the self–esteem between the primary school pupils from social supporting families and primary school pupils from social not supporting families in city of Kaunas (p<0,05); in study No. I the statistically significant difference of the levels self–confidence between primary school pupils from social supporting families and primary school pupils from social not supporting families in city of Kaunas (p<0,05). It was established in the studies No. I and No. II the statistically significant difference of the levels of self–esteem between primary school pupils from social supporting families and primary school pupils from social not supporting families in region of Kaunas (p<0,05) and in the study No. I the statistically significant difference of the levels self–confidence between primary school pupils from social supporting families and primary school pupils from social not supporting families in region of Kaunas (p<0,05). 4. After analysis the same group research results of self–esteem and self–confidence over the time it was established the statistically significant difference of the levels: of self–confidence between the studies No. I and No. II the primary school pupils from social supporting families in city of Kaunas (p<0,05); of self–esteem between the studies No. I and No. II the primary school pupils from social not supporting families in city of Kaunas (p<0,05); of self–confidence between I study and II study the primary school pupils from social supporting families in region of Kaunas (p<0,05); of self–confidence the studies No. I and No. II the primary school pupils from social not supporting families in region of Kaunas (p
