The peculiarities of motivation for sporting activity of students (boys and girls) playing basketball

Various peculiarities of motivation are constantly presented in modern sport movement. Students (boys and girls) practicing basketball and seeking good results in learning always have their own peculiarities of motivation and the strategy to achieve them. Only having a clear goal and right strategy for seeking the peculiarities of motivation, one is able to achieve what s/he wants. Very often sportsmen face failures because they set themselves goals and the peculiarities of motivation that do not satisfy their possibilities or are not concrete. Research object – the motivation and peculiarities for sporting activity of students (boys and girls) playing basketball. Research problem: what are the peculiarities of motivation for sporting activity of students (boys and girls) playing basketball? The purpose of this investigation work - to disclose the peculiarities of motivation for sporting activity of students (boys and girls) playing basketball. The following purposes were set during the investigation: 1. To investigate the inner motivation for sporting activity of students (boys and girls) playing basketball. 2. To investigate the outer motivation for sporting activity of students (boys and girls) playing basketball. For the investigation, based on survey questionnaire, a random sample was composed of 98 students playing basketball (42 girls and 56 boys from 18 to 24 years old (the average age: 21 ± 3) of Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education (LAPE), Kaunas Medical Academy (KMA) and Vytautas Magnus University (VMU). Investigation hypothesis: This work is based on the presumption that the peculiarities of motivation of students (boys and girls) playing basketball depend upon the sex. Summarizing the investigation results, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. Having compared the investigation results of motivation for learning of boys and girls playing basketball, we observed that the inner and outer motivation for learning of boys playing basketball is in many aspects stronger than the motivation of girls. 7 2. Having evaluated the investigation results of the peculiarities of motives, we found that the components of girls playing basketball were most often inner, i.e. emotional. Girls indicated two most important motives: the desire to win and, as a result, to feel happy. They also pointed out that the motive to have a good time was also very significant.
