Assessment of the adaptation of the workers in tourist industry

To describe the concept of adaptation and its meaning in the process of the formation of personnel. 2. To analyze factors of effectiveness in the process of adaptation revealing professional and social influences. 3. To explain factors influencing workers’ adaptation in tourist industry. Methodology 1. Literature review 2. Survey 3. Statistical analysis Description: What influences workers’ adaptation in tourist industry? Among the most important factors that determine successful existence and goal achievement in organizations we can list the human workforce. According to business experts, the human workforce is the most valuable asset. In order to use the human workforce purposefully, the workers’ adaptation in organizations becomes a very important matter. Unsuccessful adaptation can later result in loss of workforce as well financial loss. This issue is especially poignant in Lithuania today because in recent years there is a labor loss which leads to increased emigration. Conclusions: 1. Generally speaking, adaptation is human ability to adapt to changing or new social, economic and natural conditions. It is a process through which novices learn certain behavior, values, beliefs and social knowledge to fulfill their role and to be successful in an organization. One of any organization’s goals is allow for successful adaptation of a new employee in a workplace which determines organizational success. The success of adaptation depends on personal characteristics and abilities, as well as organizational attitude and social environment. 2. Workers’ adaptation depends on both social psychological and professional adaptation. Worker’s social adaptation is the understanding of social, psychological characteristics and adjustment to existent organizational relations. It is a new employee’s embrace of organizational traditions, norms and values. Professional adaptation is the absorption of professional skills and abilities, cultivation of characteristics relevant to a profession which leads to a positive outlook towards employee’s profession and increased motivation. Factors which determine successful adaptation of novices can be divided in three categories: individual actions, environmental and organizational factors. Securing effectiveness of those factors allows for fast and successful adaptation in an organization. 3. Analysis of worker’s adaptation process in tourist industry in Kaunas has shown that successful adaptation was determined by experience, social abilities and psychological climate in an organization. The important factors become optimal social interaction in a work group and novice’s relationship with the head of an organization. If workers take care of their new colleagues, they are able to learn and process information from their co-workers; they discover tasks they cannot perform on their own, and, thus, the process of adaptation becomes easier. An important factor that shapes adaptation is motivation that an employee’s job is meaningful and useful to the organization.
