Swimming sports infrastructure in kaunas city supply evaluation

The research object – Swimming sports infrastructure supply in Kaunas city. Substantiation of a problem. Popularity of a healthy lifestyle and active leisure activities leads to increasing number of sport cultivating members of society at amateur level. It‘is therefore more relevant topic into existing sports infrastructure and its condition, since on it often depends the interest in sport, and in choosing sports activities. Swimming sport is extremely popular sporting activity in a way due to its versatility and simplicity; there is no need nor special training or special skills. But sometimes sports infrastructure for the swimming sport does not match the needs of amateur sports. Existing and available sports infrastructure anf its condition to all lovers of swimming remains relevant to this day issues that may negatively influence an individual's attitudes, to reduce the motivation to engage in sporting activities. Therefore, it‘s important to clarify the needs of society and opinions „in time“ about the sports facilities offered for swimming sport. Objective of research. To investigate the main aspects of swimmingpools infrastructure in Kaunas. The tasks of the research: 1. describe sports infrastructure supply role and significance in and for community; 2. to reveal the key aspects of existing sports infrastructure supply in Lithuania; 3. appreciate the sports infrastructure facilities and supply in Kaunas. The methods and investigational. It was carried out a qualitative study - a questionnaire survey. Questionnaire (17 questions total) accounted for sociodemographic questions, as well as issues involving the main reasons for promoting sports activities and problems faced by the respondents visiting or intending to visit the pools in Kaunas. It was also compared their income and their part given for visiting swimming pools, and the approach to the renovation and expansion of innovative ideas for sports facilities offer in swimming sport in Kaunas. The study was conducted in 2014. April. Kaunas city were interviewed five pools visitors, as well as the questionnaire has been posted on the Internet. Total 153 respondents were interviewed. Results. Carried out, the supply infrastructure in Kaunas, survey results confirmed that the public is inclined to get involved in sports activities, sees this as a personal benefit, from the perspective of improving health and quality of spending leisure time. However, the main problems identified in engaging sports activities in Kaunas, confirmed the lack of sports facilities supply in the city and respondents expectations, regarding the improvement of the situation and granted greater opportunities in the future.
