Massage effect for low back pain and function using massage oils

The aim of the research – to evaluate the effect of classic massage in reducing low back pain using massage oils. Methods – 14 volunteer female subjects (participants age was 40-80 years, mean age was 55,07) with low back pain which lasted more than 12 weeks were randomly enrolled in two groups, classic massage therapy group (n=7) using massage oil with natural components and classic massage therapy group (n=7) using vaseline oil. Low back pain, functional disability level, and low back mobility were evaluated at the start of massage procedures and after 7 massage procedures. Low back pain intensity was assessed using a visual analog scale (VAS), functional disability level was assessed using Oswestry index, low back mobility was assessed using modified Schober test, there was also questionnaire about subjects low back pain problems. Both groups had 7 massage procedures which lasted 20 minutes. Results - The statistical analysis revealed that classic massage therapy using massage oil with natural components had significantly improved the pain intensity compared to classic massage therapy using vaseline oil. Conclusions 1. Classic massage using massage oil with natural components had greater reduced the pain in lower back than classic massage using vaseline oil. 2. Classic massage using massage oil with natural components and vaseline oils reduced functional disability. 3. Classic massage using massage oil with natural components and vaseline oils improved low back mobility
