Burnout characteristics of lithuanian duel sports coaches

Object of research – burnout of Lithuanian duel sports coaches Scientific problem of research is that there are no convincing, evidence-based researches conducted in Lithuanian about burnout in sports. Research goal - to disclose the features of Lithuanian duel sports coaches. Objectives of research: 1) To explore the burnout features of Lithuanian duel sports coaches‘ in respect with gender, age and work experience. 2) To determine how the coaches of Lithuanian duel sports cope with burnout (in respect with gender, age and work experience). Hypotheses. There is a hypothesis, that main characteristics of burnout are the following: 1) Female coaches experience burnout more often that male coaches. 2) Younger coaches (less than 35 year old) experience burnout less often than their older (more than 35 year old) colleagues. 3) Sports teachers, working more than 10 years, experience burnout more often that those, who have less working experience. 4) Male coaches, having more than 10 years working experience and older than 35 year old, cope with burnout more effectively. Conclusions: 1. After applying R. Martens („Coach burnout scale“), American Public Welfare Association provided questionnaire for evaluating burnout level and „CBQ“ („Coach Burnout Questionnaire“, Harris, 2003) methodologies, summarized results showed that: Lithuanian duel sports coaches experience burnout syndrome. However, it was noticed, that they do not experience high level of burnout (experienced burnout level is stated as low or medium). The burnout is more characteristic for female coaches, comparing with male coaches. While applying c² criterion, it was determined, that there are no statistically reliable differences in coaches variation, in respect with gender (p> 0,05). Burnout research while considering the age variable showed, that coaches, older than 35 year old, experience burnout more often while comparing them with coaches, younger than 35 year old, who do not experience burnout. While applying c² criterion, it was determined, that for coaches, that are older or younger than 35 year old, the variation differs more statistically reliably (p> 0,05). After exploring the burnout in respect with professional competence (work experience) it was noticed that variation, according to working experience differs reliably concerning the statistics (p0,05). 2. After analyzing the methodology „How to cope with burnout“ (Martens, 1999), it was stated that female coaches cope with burnout more effectively than male coaches. While applying c² criterion, it was determined, that there are no statistically reliable differences in coaches variation, in respect with gender (p> 0,05). After evaluating the variation of coaches, statistically reliable differences were noticed (p< 0,05), proving that coaches, older than 35 years cope with burnout more effectively than coaches, younger than 35 year old
