Situation of physical education in Kaunas and Klaipeda schools: teachers attitude

Object of research – teachersapproachtothe situationof physical educationin Kaunasand Klaipeda schools. Aim of the study – determineandcomparethe situationof physical educationin Kaunas andKlaipeda schools:teachers attitude. Objectives: 1. Identify andcompare thephysical educationand thepupilsprogressandachievementevaluationof physical educationclassesin Kaunasand Klaipedaschools. 2. Setandcomparephysical educationteachers status andthe statusof the PEin school,learning tools, and equipmentquality andquantity: KaunasandKlaipedaschools. 3. To assess and compareteachers attitudeabout workingwith physicallyweakerpupils in KaunasandKlaipedaschools. 4. To survey and compareteachers attitude towardsnon-formaleducationin Kaunasand Klaipedaschools. Hypothesis: • Situation of physical education is different in Kaunas and Klaipeda schools. Conclusions: 1. After analyzing Kaunas and Klaipeda physical education curriculum, we found out that only between dance and gymnastic lessons observed statistically significant correlation (p < 0.05), while all other curricular activities are overlapped. Research shows that Kaunas and Klaipeda teachersevaluate pupils progress and achievement during physical education classes, and more than 80 percent prefers grade rating system. 2. Study found out that in Kaunas and Klaipeda schools physical education learning tools andequipment quality and quantity is sufficient, and teachers are responsible for that. The physical education subject status in Kaunas and Klaipeda schools (more than 50 percent) and physical education teacher status (more than 80 percent) is the same as the other subjects and the status of teachers. 3. Analyzing teachers work with physically weaker pupils in Kaunas and Klaipeda schools found out that physical education classes for physically weaker pupils are the same like for other pupils. The most common actions proposed invalid out from physical education classes are checkers, chess and watching PE clasess without any activity. We found out that the biggest difference was statistically significant ( p< 0.05) of the proposed table game activity (in Kaunas - 48 percent, in Klaipeda - 23 percent). 4. Study found out that mostly offer non-formal education activities in Kaunas and Klaipeda schools are basketball, square, volleyball, gymnastics and soccer. The most popular promotional tool for pupils in Kaunas is a letter of commendation (53 percent in Kaunas, in Klaipeda only 26 percent) and Klaipeda considered that it will be useful for future employment (47 percent)
