The relationships between physical activity and academic achievements of 10-11th grade schoolboys

Object: the relationships between 10-11th grade schoolboys’ physical activity and academic achievements. Purpose: to investigate the relationships between 10-11th grade schoolboys’ physical activity and academic achievements. Tasks: 1st – to analyse the physical activity of 10-11th grade schoolboys. 2nd – to analyse the academic achievements of 10-11th grade schoolboys. 3rd – to investigate the relationships between physical activity and academic achievements of 10- 11th grade schoolboys. Conclusions: 1. Based on the total amount of physical activity during the past seven days (i.e. energy expenditure on vigorous and moderate intensity physical activities and walking), the most of the 10- 11th grade schoolboys were of high physical activity level, the least – of moderate physical activity level. 2. It was found that 10-11th grade schoolboys academic achievements on average were of satisfactory level, i.e. not reaching the mark „7“ out of 10. Schoolboys of low physical activity level group have higher scores in humanitarian study subjects, moderate physical activity level group schoolboys academic achievements are of the same level in both humanitarian and exact science subjects, and schoolboys of high physical activity level have greater scores in exact science study subjects. 3. Less physically active schoolboys of 10-11 grade have better results in humanitarian study subjects than of exact science. According to the average score in all six study subjects (both of humanitarian and exact sciences) we may conclude that the higher is the physical activity of 10-11 grade schoolboys the better are their academic achievements
