Purpose: Previously we reported that only 14 days of optically induced strabismus around 4 weeks of age were sufficient to disrupt the disparity sensitivity of neurons in V1 and to increase the prevalence of interocular suppression (Kumagai et al, 2000; Mori et al, 2002). In this study we investigated whether shorter durations of misalignment could disrupt the binocular response properties of V1 neurons. Methods: Strabismus was optically simulated in 4 infant rhesus monkeys using a prism-rearing procedure.
