ZusammenfassungDie Sierra de San Luis ist Teil der Sierra de Pampeanas welche in sich in Zentralargentinien befinden. Das kristalline Basement entwickelte sich während des Famatinischen Zyklus am Ende des Präkambriums bis Anfang des Paleozoikums. Das Basement ist aus Granat-Glimmer-Schiefer, Gneis (welche die amphibolitfaziellen Bedingungen repräsentieren und Granuliten (Granulitfazies) aufgebaut. Die eingeschobenen mafisch- ultramafischen Gesteinslinsen welche man an der Oberfläche beobachten kann sind Teil einer 120km langen NNE-SSW streichenden Intrusion.
