Diese Arbeit soll beweisen, dass das Thema Armut ein wichtiger gestalterischer und prägender Faktor in der Entwicklung von George Orwell als Autor sozialkritischer Texte war. Des Weiteren soll aufgezeigt werden, dass es eine komplexe Beziehung zwischen Orwell und den Armen gegeben hat, und dass diese Beziehung zu einem Reifungsprozess in Orwells Persönlichkeit und Schreibstil beigetragen hat.Die ersten Kapitel beinhalten eine kurze Biographie und einen historischen Hintergrund zur großen Wirtschaftskrise und Zahlen zur Arbeitslosigkeit in England.Der Hauptteil der Arbeit enthält Primärquellenzitate und eine eingehende Analyse der Haupttexte von Orwell.
