We deal with a problem from celestial mechanics, namely the minimum-time orbit transfer towards a geostationary orbit. More precisely, we are concerned with the particular case of single-input transfer. Using esults and methods from previous studies, the optimal single-input transfer is computed and we observe excellent results given the additional constraints on the thrust direction in this case. Since the optimal control is discontinuous, we introduce two smooth approximations.
