The two fields of algebraic geometry and algorithmic geometry, though closely related, are traditionally represented by almost disjoint communities. Both fields deal with curves or surfaces but objects are represented in different ways. While algebraic geometry defines objects by the mean of equations, algorithmic geometry use to work with linear models. The current trend is to apply algorithmic geometry algorithms to non linear models such as those found in algebraic geometry. Such algorithms play an important role in many practical fields such as Computer Aided Geometric Design.
