This project discusses the plight of today's secondary school journalism teacher. With the approval of such programs as the Indiana Core 40, which requires that students receive so many credits from English or language arts, journalism classes are starting to become nothing more than extracurricular activities; however, journalism classes provide students with a viable alternative to "regular" English and language arts classes. This project shows the direct correlation of journalism curricular requirements to English and language arts requirements using both basic outlines and Indiana Department of Education curriculum guidelines for English and language arts.
