The construction of the Regensburg Cathedral : an honors thesis (HONRS 499)

During the fall of 2009, I was given the opportunity to study abroad in Regensburg, Germany. The experience was life changing, and I made many lasting memories. I fell in love with the city, its people, and most especially, its cathedral. Whether illuminated by sun or moon, the Regensburg Cathedral is breathtaking, and even after taking several tours, 1 felt the need to know more. I was presented with the perfect opportunity to do so with my German 303 class, and the result of which is the following honors thesis. I collected various resources, mostly in German. After a long translation and comprehension process, which involved learning many German architectural terms that I was not familiar with, I began to form my research into cohesion. Through my research, I learned of the lengthy construction and renovation periods of the cathedral, which make up the majority of my thesis. I also spent some time looking at the entire process of translating and writing my thesis, in German, and made note of various difficulties and challenges I incurred.
