Nonmethane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) result in ozone and aerosol production that adversely affects the environment and human health. For modeling purposes, anthropogenic NMVOC emissions have been typically compiled using the “bottom-up” approach. To minimize uncertainties of the bottom-up emission inventory, “top-down” NMVOC emissions can be estimated using formaldehyde (HCHO) observations.
