Acculturation of Chinese students on a U.S. college campus

This research was done in an effort to learn about the cultural adjustment issues faced by Chinese international students studying at colleges and universities in the United States. A qualitative methodology was used to learn about these issues. The review of related literature discussed the importance of the role of international students in American higher education and focused on issues of acculturation that have been faced by Chinese international students. The findings are presented with a focus on the four research questions, and the prominent themes that emerged from the participants' data. These themes centered on social, academic and language adjustment issues. The conclusion includes discussion of these issues in the context of the ten research questions that were posed to each participant. Finally, suggestions on how knowledge of this research can be used to ease the cultural adjustment of Chinese international students are included.Department of Educational StudiesThesis (M.A.
