Analysis, a Honduras steel plant location

The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the location of the Altos Hornos de Centro America steel plant in Agalteca, Honduras by its comparison to an optimum location for a steel plant. The optimum location for the steel plant will be formulated by the application of the best location theory using the factors of iron ore, coal, limestone locations, and the available transportation networks.Honduras, being an economically developing nation, needs the expansion of its industrial development to become a competitive nation on the international market. It is therefore necessary to place these industries to obtain the most profit or the least cost in development. The steel industry is a relatively new industry and it is one of the first heavy industries to be established in Honduras. The optimum location is a momentous factor for the future success of the iron and steel industry of Honduras.The theory and formula used to determine the optimum location of a steel plant can also be applied to other industries desiring to locate in this region. This study may be used as a reference to other companies endeavoring an economically optimum site in Honduras.Thesis (M.A.
