Art and existentialism

This creative project entailed the production, documentation and display of eight sculptures. The intention of the writer was to produce works that portrayed the human condition as one of despair, anxiety and alienation. Existential philosophy was used because it coincided with thoughts the writer had on the human condition. The writer's purpose was to produce sculptures that were confrontational and raised questions in the viewer. The major themes covered in the works were alienation, anxiety, despair and death. All the works were made with a combination of materials, but the main material used was fiberglass and resin. A stronger emotional and confrontational impact was achieved with the fiberglass and resin.Department of ArtThesis (M.A.
