In the early stages, radiotherapy is generally used after conservative surgery, in order to increase loco-regional control. Usually it is well tolerated, however, rare serious side effects, such as radiation pneumonitis, can appear weeks to months after this treatment. Some studies point to several potential risk factors, including the dose in the homolateral lung, systemic treatment, age and relevant comorbidities.
