Recruitment of foreign workers by Malaysian employers is subject to the requirements set by the Malaysian government. Immigration policy is one of the platforms through which the government can encourage or discourage and shape migration. The shifts at both the policy/governmental and public levels have impacted not only on the migration pathways of the Indonesian female migrants in this study (that is, who can work and where), but also on the everyday experiences of women migrants in Malaysia, both at work and in public.
