An examination of communication skills in construction: Their significance to leadership

This thesis examines the importance of communication skills and leadership within the construction industry. A study was conducted through a communication and leadership training session using a pretest, posttest and retention test. The population was comprised from a specific company that performs general contract work and construction management services. The subjects are from the company\u27s Site Leadership Training (SLT) program and current Project Superintendents (PS). The study results show significant gain in communication and leadership knowledge, as well as retention of the knowledge six weeks after the training session. This thesis, through the literature review and the results of the study, indicates the need for further research and training specific to leadership skills in the construction project superintendent profession
