A phonological description of Emirati Arabic

This thesis discusses some phonological facts about Emirati Arabic, which is an Arabic variety spoken in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one of the gulf countries. It includes a description of the phonology component: consonants and vowels. The main focus of this thesis is on the phonological rules that apply in the language and the contexts that prompt them. The rules are divided into those that affect the consonants and those that affect the vowels. Findings from research on other Arabic varieties are included to support the ideas and to give a better picture of the environments of these rules
