The fundamental question of ‘Who am I?’ becomes extremely complex to answer when asked if the reflection in the mirror, the constructed visual projection an individual sees, reflects an identity. Our identity, often vague and distant in our thoughts, is projected through our constructed appearance. This constructive masking is created through makeup, hair styling, and wardrobe selection and routinely favored among women in Western culture. This investigation will focus on the construction of Western women’s identities with close attention to the private and public realm.
