The Harlem Renaissance, also known at the Negro Renaissance and the New Negro Movement, was a revolution that transformed politics, culture, and society—first in Harlem, and then in America for persons of African descent. It also changed the world\u27s perceptions of African America, and, most important, profoundly altered the way that African Americans perceived themselves. Unfortunately, decades after the movement, Nella Larsen, Jessie Redmon Fauset, and Zora Neale Hurston continue to be neglected by contemporary scholarship for many of the same reasons that they were marginalized in their own day.
