The main objective of this thesis has been to obtain a better understanding of the onset of sliding of dry elastomer contacts. Because real surfaces are rough, contact interfaces are usually multi-contacts made up of a myriad of individual micro-contacts between antagonist asperities. The macroscopic behavior of such interfaces is thus a complex sum of the individual responses of all micro-contacts. Here, we aimed at better characterizing the micro-contact behavior through a systematic study of model PDMS sphere/glass plate shearing experiments.
