Messalina bore him two children, one of them is a son ; Agrippina would have persuaded him to adopt his own son, the future Nero. The study of numismatically and epigraphical sources, besides the study of literary sources, brings informations about these mothers empresses' various identities. They also permit to nuance the portrait made by the ancient authors on their account. Finally, they testify to a fight between the two successor's mothers.
