Asian and current Western research has emphasized the vital role of relationships in leadership. Managers and employees, in addition to having reasonable expectations for their cultural differences, must be able to negotiate a way to work together across a variety of tasks and situations. This paper proposes that Asian as well as Western managers can use the theory of cooperation and competition to develop their relationships so that they can work effectively across situations and over time. Recent studies have shown how the theory is useful for helping leaders develop effective relationships among supply chain members
