The articles contributed to this issue mark the successful launch of the Journal of Asian Public Policy for the fourth year. Although contributors in this issue have chosen different topics of research ranging from comparing and contrasting welfare models in the Nordic region and East Asia with bilingual policy in Singapore, one central theme running through the articles collected in this issue is closely related to how major Asian societies have handled rapid social and economic changes, with particular reference to examining what major strategies that these selected Asian societies have adopted in promoting sustainable development
