Antecedents of Entrepreneurs’ well-being during COVID-19 crisis: A scoping review

COVID-19 has exacerbated issues related to economic activities, impacting entrepreneurs’ mental health and well-being. forty-three percent of businesses were temporarily closed because of the pandemic in the US (Bartik et al., 2020). Taking into consideration that this population creates activities that are strategic and valuable for societies, it is necessary to understand the challenges and opportunities that they face. The purpose of this study was to investigate the recent literature related to the antecedents of entrepreneurs’ well-being (EWB). We asked the following research question: What determines entrepreneurial well-being in terms of eudaimonic and hedonic perspectives? We used a scoping review encompassing the years 2011-2021, a PRISMA tool allowed us to identify research on EWB antecedents. Thirty-nine articles were deemed eligible for appraisal. We used a thematic approach to analyze our results. We interpreted the latter using the theoretical framework of psychological well-being. In total, seven themes emerged from the review, including: The effects of resources on well-being, the effect of entrepreneurial experience, necessity entrepreneurship vs. opportunity entrepreneurship, the effect of culture, the effect of gender, the effect of creativity and innovation, performance and company lifecycle. Eudaimonic perspectives were more common in determining EWB
