Anti-Lithiasic activity of the Almond of the fruit Z. lotus in the Human Urine

This study was designed to evaluate in vitro the anti-lithiasic efficacy of aqueous extracts obtained from Zizyphus Lotus fruit kernel powder in human urine.In addition, the prevalence of urolithiasis in the world is increasing rapidly. Urolithiasis consists of the formation of crystalline aggregates called "urinary stones" that develop in the urinary tract, usually in the kidneys or ureters, but can also affect the bladder or urethra. The objective of this work is to evaluate, in vitro, the anticrystallising activity of the "forgotten fruit" of choice against calcium oxalate crystals in human urine. The fruits of Zizyphus lotus were collected from the Béni-Mellal-Khenifra region. Samples of the fruit were crushed with a mortar so as to have a greater. Afterwards, the samples were subjected to a cold aqueous maceration at 4°C for 48 hours. The study of the in vitro crystallization of calcium oxalate in human urine was carried out using the Polarized Light Optical Microscope (PLOM). The addition of the aqueous extract of the Zizyphus lotus fruit grater to human urine decreased the size and number of calcium oxalate di-hydrate crystals and the fruit showed anti-lithiasic activity in vitro by inhibiting the growth of calcium oxalate crystals.
