Magnetic Diagnosis of Gliding Arc

6 pagesInternational audienceGliding arc discharges are the topicst of renewed interest in applications to a variety of chemical reactions. A gliding arc creates a weakly ionized gas ‘string' between two horn-shaped electrodes. The reacting gas introduced at the electrode base blows the arc string upwards. These devices can be applied in industry mainly for decontamination, general gas treatment and for surface treatment [1 – 5]. It is important to control the arc displacement during the process. Therefore it is planned at the laboratory to mount a magnetic camera in order to visualize the arc dynamics. An original method based on the measurement of induced magnetic field by an arc discharge is presented
