CIBLAGE D’INFLATION ET PERFORMANCE ECONOMIQUE : UNE ETUDE EMPIRIQUE

The work presented in this paper is intended to be a contribution to current affairs debate on the performance of central banks practicing inflation targeting (IT). To this end, we propose the use of a simple model measuring the economic performance of IT countries, which conclusions are compatible with different empirical studies on the effects of IT on the control of inflation and economic growth as well as their volatilities. In this context, it is noted that the models of difference in difference that incorporate the most recent theoretical and econometric advances are the most advanced tools for analyzing the impact of IT on the economic performance of the countries practicing this monetary policy strategy. As a contribution to the empirical literature on the debate on the existence of a relationship between the adoption of the IT strategy and the economic performance of the countries practicing this strategy, our work could be considered as an additional argument in favor of the existence of such a relationship. This purpose, confirms the existence of a positive and sometimes significant impact of the adoption of IT on the macroeconomic performance of developed, emerging and developing economies. Finally, we confirm that IT contributes, to a large extent, to the maintenance of price stability without serious negative consequences for economic activity
