Epilepsy is a chronic disorder of the brain that affects people in every country of the world. The clinical spectrum of epilepsy in India and other developing countries is similar to that of the developed world, but the extent to which patients with epilepsy are recognized, investigated, and managed is different. Various factors which contribute to these differences are etiology, socio-cultural background, economic burden and epidemiology. With a major chunk of Indians living in villages, such epilepsies are often neglected in terms of diagnosis and treatment.
