Philip Livingston to John Kean, February 2, 1795

Philip Livingston in New York, NY wrote to John Kean, addressed to Philadelphia, PA. The English newspapers arrived from Liverpool to 18 December. An acquaintance asked the captain if the British public believed that the King of Prussia had made a separate peace with France to which he responded that there was a mixed reaction with some believing it and others not because there was no official report yet. There were no actions between the various armies and the moderates had restrained the Jacobins in the Convention in France. There was a rumor that Mr. Jay sent a letter to the government containing a copy of the treaty. The letter further discussed stocks and bank notes.
