La depresión como trastorno colateral en pacientes diagnosticados con dengue

Dengue is an infection caused by viruses of the Flaviviridae family, transmitted by mosquitoes of the Aedes genus. It began to spread in Ecuador since 1998 when the epidemiological figure of the DEN1 serotype became evident. In Esmeraldas there is a high percentage of homes that do not have running water and their houses are built with reeds, which facilitates the proliferation of the main dengue vector. There is evidence that dengue can present chronic symptoms after the acute phase has self-limited. The psychological symptoms studied are the following: insomnia, aggressiveness, irritability, lack of concentration and depression. Due to the high presence of the virus in our population, the study on the relationship between depression and dengue was decided. For this, the medical records were analyzed and a Patient Health questionnaire was carried out on all those patients between 18 and 65 years old who attended the Juan Carlos Guasti Basic Hospital in the period between 2019 and 2020. Comenzó a propagarse, en Ecuador desde el año 1998 cuando la figura epidemiológica del serotipo DEN1 se hizo evidente. En Esmeraldas existe un porcentaje alto de hogares que no poseen agua corriente y la construcción de sus casas es a base de cañas lo cual facilita la proliferación del principal vector del dengue. Existe evidencia de que el dengue puede presentar sintomatología crónica después de que la fase aguda se haya autolimitado. Los síntomas psicológicos estudiados son los siguientes: insomnio, agresividad, irritabilidad, falta de concentración y depresión. Debido a la alta presencia del virus en nuestra población, se decidió el estudio sobre la relación entre la depresión y el dengue. Para ello, se analizaron las historias clínicas de aquellos pacientes de entre 18 a 65 años que asistieron al Hospital Básico Juan Carlos Guasti en el período comprendido entre 2019 a 2020 en busca de pacientes con diagnóstico de depresión, para constituir el grupo caso y el grupo control fue tomado de pacientes sanos de poblaciones cercanas, a quienes se les aplico la encuesta DASS 21 para establecer diagnóstico de Depresión.
