Urbe Moderna y Espacio Prostibular chileno: esbozando algunas relaciones a partir de las propuestas higienistas del médico Octavio Maira (1887)

Prostitution is a subject field with great potential when analyzed from the perspective of its social function, particularly its role in modern civilization. More specifically, from its location in the structure of the city, the cradle of modern excellence. This paper intends to provide some orientation towards this dimension, taking from the Chilean hygienist discourse analysis, developed between the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In this way, we aim to contribute to the understanding of the incarnation of modern patriarchal sex-gender system, and put this into prostitution as a constitutive axis.  , city, modern, Hygienism, Chile.La prostitución constituye un campo temático de grandes proyecciones para su análisis desde la perspectiva de su función social, particularmente, el rol que ha jugado en la civilización moderna. Con mayor especificidad, a partir de su ubicación en la estructura de la ciudad, cuna de la modernidad por excelencia. En este trabajo, intentamos entregar algunas líneas de orientación respecto a esta dimensión, a partir del análisis del discurso higienista chileno, desarrollado entre la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y la primera del XX. De esta manera, pretendemos contribuir a la comprensión de la encarnación del sistema sexo-género patriarcal moderno, y situar a la prostitución como eje constitutivo del mismo
