The Falklands are a Non Self-Governing Territory with a small population of predominantly British stock. Argentina maintains a territorial claim to the islands.While the issue is a consequence of colonialism it is probably no longer colonial in the way colonialism was envisaged when the matter was referred to the United Nations in the 1960s. The intractability of the issue shows that the traditional decolonisation process is probably reaching its limits.
