Depuis un peu plus de vingt cinq ans, les sciences humaines et sociales essaient de comprendre et d'interpréter les dynamiques de l'épidémie de VIH/Sida. La science politique africaniste est cependant en marge de ce mouvement cognitif malgré le développement de nombreux paradigmes sur les politiques publiques. Cette méfiance de l'africanisme à l'égard du VIH/Sida manifeste vraisemblablement une sorte de souffrance épistémologique fortement liée à ce trop plein d'institutionnalisme des politiques publiques, adoubé par le fort étatisme qui caractérise encore les études africaines en science politique.
