Abstract Glaucoma is among the leading causes of global visual impairment. However, systematic screening has not been recommended due to the lack of evidence on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of screening in preventing permanent visual impairment. The aim of this thesis was to report the prevalence of open-angle glaucoma (OAG) in the Northern Finland 1966 Birth Cohort (NFBC) and to evaluate the accuracy of the diagnostic tests as potential glaucoma screening tools.
