Accurately predicting the lift and the drag exerted on aircraft has always remained essential for the designer. In order to develop the future commercial aircraft that minimize fuel burn and hence operating costs and environmental footprint, the designer needs to clearly identify the phenomenological sources of lift and drag. This is done by means of far-field force decomposition methods like the Lamb-vector-based formulation. This formulation is new, very promising, but the corresponding force decomposition is sensitive to the reference point used for moment computation, dependent on the size of the integration domain, unable to provide a robust definition for the wave drag, and the physical role of compressibility in lift and drag is stil...
