L’hypothèse d’une discipline Arts et Sciences : l’essor des pratiques artistiques contemporaines au sein des laboratoires scientifiques

The attractiveness of research laboratories in "hard" sciences with actors of contemporary art creation dates back to the 1950s, at the very moment when the figure of the artist-researcher was being forged. Since then, Arts and Science practices, which is work co-produced by an artist and a researcher, have continued to develop, testifying to the growing interest of the art world in questions, methodologies, instruments and images that are elaborated through Sciences. By choosing the Hauts-de-France Region as a field of study and by observing the activities carried out in university laboratories and cultural institutions, this thesis highlights the major role played by actors in higher education and research - art colleges, universities and engineering schools - through research programs, calls for projects, mixed working groups and residencies. These new programs promote the expansion of Arts and Science practices, by questioning the very idea of the discipline. Beyond the certain development of artistic activities within laboratories, we are witnessing the scientific turning point of art, one of the forms of which suggests the institutionalisation of a new discipline : Arts and Sciences.L’attractivité des laboratoires de recherche en sciences “exactes” auprès des acteurs de la création contemporaine remonte aux années 50 au moment même où se forge la figure de l’artiste-chercheur. Depuis, les pratiques Arts et Sciences, engageant l’œuvre à être coproduite par un artiste et un chercheur, ne cessent de se développer. Elles témoignent de l’intérêt croissant que les mondes de l’art portent aux questions, méthodologies, instruments et images scientifiques qui s'élaborent dans les laboratoires. En choisissant comme terrain d’étude la Région des Hauts-de-France, par l'observation des activités menées dans les laboratoires universitaires et les institutions culturelles, cette thèse met en évidence le rôle majeur joué par les acteurs de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche - écoles supérieures d’art, universités et écoles d'ingénieurs -, à la faveur de programmes de recherche, d’appels à projets, de groupes mixtes de travail et de résidences. Ces nouveaux dispositifs favorisent l’expansion des pratiques Arts et Sciences, en questionnant l’idée même de discipline. Au-delà d’un essor certain pris par les activités artistiques au sein des laboratoires, nous assistons, c’est là notre hypothèse, au tournant scientifique de l’art dont l’une des formes laisse entrevoir l’institutionnalisation d’une nouvelle discipline Arts et Sciences
