The nature of dark matter is still unknown. The discovery of intermediate-mass black holes through the detection of gravitational waves has renewed interest in the hypothesis of primordial black holes as a major component of dark matter. Historically, surveys searching for microlensing events have allowed to determine limits on the contribution to the galactic dark matter halo of objects up to ten solar masses. However, the use of the microlensing effect for the detection of more massive objects is limited by the duration of the historical experiments, which are too short to be individually sensitive to multi-year events caused by high-mass lenses.
