The recent decades have seen the emergence of new energy and environmental requirements and challenges giving rise to multiple reflections in the building construction sector (new and old construction). They relate, notably, to the development of innovative and sustainable building eco-materials. In order to overcome these problems, numerous research and development projects have been carried out. Among the latter, we might mention the substitution of cement by other non-biodegradable alternatives. This promising way permits to, (i) significantly reduce the environmental footprint, (ii) preserve natural resources and (iii) reduce the overall cost of construction.
