This thesis work focuses on the development of β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP, β-Ca3(PO4)2) doped with four cations (Mg2+, Sr2+, Ag+ and Cu2+) by the co-precipitation method and the manufacture of macroporous scaffolds by robocasting. β-TCP is one of the most studied biomaterials in the field of bone repair because it exhibits excellent biocompatibility as well as osteoconductive and resorbable properties in the human body. Different compositions of doped and co-doped β-TCP are synthesized and the effect of the presence of dopants on thermal stability, densification, mechanical properties and biocompatibility is evaluated.
