Imaging techniques, used to probe material properties at the nanometric scale, have been developed for many years in the aim of providing tools for the diagnostics in the material and medical science fields. Such nanoscale studies are important for the comprehension of macro-scale properties from the nanoscale structure of materials. The use of ultrafast lasers to generate nanoscale acoustic pulses is coupled to the time-domain Brillouin scattering (TDBS) detection technique to monitor the propagation of acoustic pulses in transparent samples.
