Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is the second world region that will experience a steep increase in the number of older people within its population (+218% between 2019 and 2050). However, little attention is devoted to health issues related to aging. The main aim of this PhD thesis was to investigate the relationships between Visual Impairment (VI) and other adverse health conditions such as cognitive disorders, dependence, poor Vision-Related Quality of Life (VRQoL), and frailty among older people in SSA. To achieve this goal, several studies were conducted using data from the EPIDEMCA/FU programs.
