The development of a new generation of very low Earth orbit satellites requires the minimization of the aerodynamic drag and of the aerothermodynamic load in order to move along orbits as low as possible while guarantying the integrity of its payload. In the meantime, the space operation act of 2008 compels french operators to limit the debris related risks during the de-orbitation phase. In the same way, a deeper knowledge of the flight conditions during an atmospheric reentry is paramount for the design of new reusable reentry vehicles.These objectives call for a firm grasp of the aerodynamic (forces and moment coefficients) and aerothermodynamic (heat flux) load namely at high altitudes.
